Side by Side

I am the most imperfect individual that I know. I am the most wretched that there may be in this world. But one thing I know, though, that no matter how imperfect and wretched I may be, God loves me.

Yes, there is no limit to what God can do. Man, limited and very finite, could not imagine how God can be so forgiving to the point of treating everyone equal. “The first shall be last and the last shall be first” philosophy may not be readily acceptable to people who have devoted their entire lives glorifying God and praising His Holy Name.

But God is God. He does what He wants because after all His agenda is His agenda.

This is the hope that I pray every day; that God will consider me among those who are in the last in his list. I can be at the tail end for as long as I am in that line. As the song goes, “And when the saints go marching in, Lord I want to be in that number, when the saints go marching in.”

And because I have deep hope that God has a place for those who are in the last slots, then I pray that in the process of waiting in the queue, I can hear His voice, I can delight his heart, I can sing his song, I can live his word.

Transformation is a process and a journey. I am willing to go through that journey along rugged roads. I may be limping my way, but I would not mind for as long as I am doing it for him.

Jesus said, ““Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts — no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.” Matthew 10:9-10.

I will listen to what Jesus has said. I will walk with him, and I will divest myself off the worldly cares. I will follow Him where He would lead me. I will not be afraid. Instead, I will fill my heart with joy because this is the chance that I can show Jesus that I am worth to keep in the last slot in the last line in the last trip of the journey towards God’s Kingdom.

I am willing to be the last if it means delighting Jesus. I am willing to be labelled as crazy if it means being with Jesus. I am willing to be looked down if it means humbling with Jesus.

Transforming for Jesus is the goal of each one of God’s creations. We take on different sides because in the end we will be in the same shape – body, mind, and soul; all for God’s glory.
